I don't know for sure,but ,since they are falang oriented businesses,I would think that there would be decline in business with the decline in ''visa runs''!

To my way of thinking, those that aren't prepared to pay for the correct visa in the first place, are unlikely to want to spent much anywhere

Hope the arrows come sooner than later,cause I resemble the ''oink oink'' guy! I am not saying the tourists won't come,just that their will be less ''overnighters'' that check out the local falang hangouts.Personally,''it is no never mind to me,you'll''(American,""Deliverance speech")

before i had the extended visa and did my 90 day runs, would usually stop in a t nong khai since there. stroll around, buy something or at least grab something to munch on. of course need pics for a visa service, if not driving, bus/train and tuk tuk service needed. wife of gf would go with me, so small fee for her paperwork. then the big loser will be the duty free shop, as a stop there for 4 bottles of something was a necessity, to recoup that damn visa charge. a nice day out and money saved via duty free shop. once in a while, an overnight in vientiane, just for the hell of it. so, some income will be lost, enough to matter, no, but every little bit helps.

Well yes this is going to effect a lot of busineses lets face there wre a lot of people doing these visa runs from all over Thailand. The guys in immigration after the innitial load of conversion to O visas are probably going to have much easier days.

But the shop owners and visa busineses catering to the visa runner are probably in for deep trouble ahead. Thailand obviously believe that this is going to have very little effect on the economy. They may be right one thing for sure we are certianly going to find out.

Me for the first time I am going to carry a copy of my visa been very comfortable with my Thai drivers license, But I'm willing to bet there will be a lot of people who will simply disappear and not leave. So I see a lot more stringent checks at road blocks in our future.

Probably just increase the turnover in falang focused establishments,depending how deep the pockets are of the falang sponsors The falangs that are trying to make a living off of other falang customers

VOA will take its impact on Nong Khai businesses.

The guesthouses and hotels will suffer, especially the Pantawee. Khun Noporn is very concerned about all this.

Nobbi's Restaurant has been sold (but willl continue under new owner) and some more "oppurtunities" are on the "market" soon.

Similar happens in Udon Thani. Some businesses are searching more or less secretly new owners.

In 3 or 3 month time it will be very difficut to place even a good running business on the market.

Not saying I am right, not saying I am wrong:

When the US military left, the consensus was that Udon would be long gone. No hope for this town.

All I can say is it did not even come close. I am now living where a rice paddy was and the only way out this way was a dirt road.

Usually when an areas main business leaves something else will take its place.
