I believe if they tried to reduce payments because of deflation would be political suicide.
as for WBU last statement why is it a free ride. many years a go a bunch of us firemen
was talking about S.S. being taken out of our paychecks and put in to a insurance company retirement fund would not only would get a better return for our buck but we would also be insured
so when you make statements like we are getting a free ride that pisses me off actually we are getting ripped off. Now i do not agree with putting our S.S. in to the stock market but setting a private insurance fund which cannot be touched by Congress would have been the more honorable way to protect
our seniors who depend on S.S payments. the people who are getting free rides are those who
think they are being over taxed but they fail to say about all the loop holes they get and pay
a lot less if there was a flat tax system

LA, you are exactly correct. Anyone who has paid into SS, as I have, deserves to be able to collect it. 'Entitlement' was a reference to welfare, Medicare and Medicaid that is bestowed upon those who do not contribute into the system.

Personally, I will be screwed by my government even in retirement. Even though I am fully vested in the social security system and paid into it dutifully, my government does not like the fact that I have prepared well for my retirement and will also draw a pension. As a result, the government will penalize me and prevent me from drawing my full social security benefit. I will only get about one quarter of it even though I am due 100% of it.

You just gotta love the wisdom of Congress, who gets to borrow from social security regularly and refuses to privatize it. Wanna know why they don't want to privatize it? Because then they'd have to pay me, and others like me, everything that I'm due. It would be mine, not theirs to control and manipulate.

I want to respond to WBU statement but I would be making it a personal debate which would be off topic
so I will save my post until we meet personally. but I do agree with WBU statement that congress
has to much control over the S.S. TRUST FUND which is not a trust fund any more since it was dumped
in to the general fund by a President I revered LBJ
