I've known the family for near to 9 years now as I said next door heighbors and I know how they work. The old boy is a real scammer. 3 quite attractive daughters now ranging in age from late 20's to mid 30's. The two younger (including the one mentioned) served their apprenticeships in Nana Plaza and both had a number of Farang sitting in front of the monks with suitable 'gifts' on the plates. The younger is in the UK with number 4, he is the old man's major source of constant income and whether he knows it or not has built the eldest sister a new home. Number 3 (a German) bought her (or should I say the old man) a new Toyota 4 door pickup. Don't know how Numbers 1 and 2 were touched up, probably cash. The elder sister has 3 kids to two previous Thai husbands and her current Thai paid 200K deposit on an new pickup in her name for his bed in this empire.

I would say that they may be fairly well off but hardly recession resistant... unless 1 and 2 provided some ability to invest in land.

Some Canadian has built a 20M baht spread on 7 rai close to our 2.7 rai on the river!We stopped by to visit when we heard music and saw alot of people there for a party.Met the father of the Canadians wife(her and her husband are still in Canada)!The father showed us around while ''qualifying ''us

He proudly explained that he has 2 daughters,the other is married to an Italian, who is also rich and is going to build in the same area.Asked the father if he was from this village and he said yes.He was supporting enough gold on his arm and fingers and Imported clothes to give VAL a run for his money! Then he asked my wife in Thai,although his English was very good(he said he studied English in Canada and Italy,as he travels to see his daughters about 6 months out of the year),''When you going to build your house on your land?''(he already knew we owned the land for 4 years )
