you can use the licence for xp for 1 computer only
if you had 2 computers in your house, you would have to have a licence for each PC

Not wishing to sound off against anyone with far more info than me about computors I have three computors and they all have XP registered with Microsoft, the same registration for all three.
It was windows XP office I had the argument with microsoft about, hence I now have office XP, office 2007 ( twice) one for each computor.
So I naturally assumed that Windows is not computor specific where Word/ Office is.
Sorry if I gave out incorrect info. :D

For Office products it can become quite complex and it depends on the type of licence that you have.

As a simple example, if you were to buy a Dell computer complete with "Microsoft Office", the "Office" licence that you receive is only valid on that particular computer, it cannot be transferred to another computer when you change computers; if however you had bought a single user copy of "Microsoft Office" separately and then installed it, you would be able to transfer it to a new computer (as long as you uninstalled it from your old computer).

I do recall in the past that in certain circumstances it used to be possible to have a single user licence for "Microsoft Office" and still have it installed on multiple computers - however I don't know whether that is still allowed.

The easiest way is to download Sun's Open Office - for free, as many times as you like!!
Same as Microsoft's except it is 'open architecture'.
Office is a good product, but at a ridiculous price for an individual - especially if you want Access as well & so have to get Office Professional. Mr. Gates will slowly do himself out of business by his pricing policies.

Bear, which method did you use to get rid of the problem???
