Wireless Internet

PostAuthor: kakariki » December 14, 2007, 8:16 am

I have a wireless internet card on my laptop that has Global Roaming through AIS in Thailand.
Does anyone use this in Udon and how fast do you get your download speeds as I'm visiting in January and wondering whether to bother bringing the laptop.
Thanks BB

you mean GPRS? GPRS is slow, but maybe 1.5x faster than 56k dial up.

i also use a mobile(motorola V3i) when hooked up to the net, simple top up 1.2.call cards works good enough, ok for browsing and other stuff, drops a connection sometimes at peak hours out in the sticks but if you have a decent un-locked mobile phone(cellphone) you'll be fine, just purchase a thai sim card .

Thanks for the info, this is a USB card and it has an Aussie sim card in it, but using a 12call card will be cheaper than their global roaming so I'll try that.
Thanks

From what I can see I can only get GPRS which would be ok.
I see that AIS, D-TAC and TRUE possibly offer these services, does anyone use this system in Udon and which company have you found to be the fastest and most reliable.
Thanks BB

you can call a 1-2 call helpline and get info on different rate programs. 1 baht a minute is a non program price. I once had a 250 bt for 60 hours a month deal.

Both, I had it working when I lived in Pattaya almost 3 years ago, then moved to Udon.

Once in Udon, I once had to call the call center and verify I was going to use the GPRS connection, that took 1 hour for their computer to accept my SIM card.
I had the same SIM card for 4 years.

1-2 call, SIM card.all you have to do is call in to activate it.

Thanks for the info, I already have a 12call card in my phone, so I'll go and see them about getting it or another connected.
Do you know if there is a 12Call office or shop in Udon.
Thanks Barry
